To be a great watchmaker, one must possess two qualities: patience and precision. Jean-Jacques Maurer, founder of Time & Gold, is characterized by these two traits.  Growing up in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, Maurer spent countless hours sitting at his grandfather’s side, watching him practise the trade. His first impression of watchmaking stuck with him for a lifetime, despite a few smacks he received to the hand when caught tinkering with his grandfather’s tools.

Now, after 50 years as a watchmaker himself, Maurer understands his grandfather’s reaction. “A watchmaker’s tools last a lifetime, and longer,” he says. “I inherited my grandfather’s at first, but now the technology has changed. Over time, I have acquired my own tools, and they are very personal and precious to me. They have become somewhat of an extension to who I am, and what I do.”

Beginning his apprenticeship as a watchmaker with Omega Switzerland at age 16, Maurer and his wife eventually decided to settle in Vancouver, where he opened his own business in 1975. Time & Gold, a retailer specializing in the sales and repair of fine mechanical watches, was born.

To this day the family tradition continues and Time & Gold embraces its roots of traditional watchmaking and after sales service.

Most mechanical watches are fine instruments and require service and lubrication approximately every 5 years. Buying a watch from Time & Gold is like buying a watch with your own personal watchmaker!

Lifetime Battery Warranty

All quartz watches purchased from TIME & GOLD are eligible for free battery replacement for the life of the timepiece.

Extended Warranty

Every new watch purchased from TIME & GOLD is covered by an extended warranty, providing coverage in addition to the manufactures warranty, up to three years from the date of purchase.
